Professor Ashfaq Ahmad

Introduction.

Ashfaq Ahmad was an educationist, novelist, and poet. He was a playwright, thinker, broadcaster, and a legend short story writer. In his career, Ashfaq Ahmed wrote many books and some famous dramas for Radio. He wrote for PTV also. He hosted some programs for the Pakistan state TV channel.

Life History:

Ashfaq Ahmed was born on 22nd August 1925 in Ferozpur (now in India). It was time before the partition of the sub-continent. After separation, he came to Lahore. He lived his whole life in Lahore. He was an eye witness of bloodshed and barbaric incidents during the partition of India. All of this left a deep impression on his entire life.

After graduation, Ashfaq Ahmed took a Master’s degree in Urdu literature from Government College Lahore. Bano Qudsia was his classmate, who became his wife later.

Ashfaq Ahmad wrote some short stories at an early age on different topics. This work published in various magazines of Urdu. After completion of his study, he started his career as a newscaster from Azad Jammu and Kashmir Radio. After some time, he departed to Rome, where he worked as a broadcaster of Urdu service for Radio Rome. In Rome and France, Ashfaq Ahmad took a diploma in Radio Broadcasting. On return to Pakistan, he started his magazine with the title of “Dastan Go.”

The career of Ashfaq Ahmad:

In 1962, he began a program from Radio Pakistan. His character, “Talqeen Shah,” publicly appreciated in whole Pakistan. This character gave a national identity to Ashfaq Ahmad. In the last decade of his life, Ashfaq Ahmad became a Sufi intellectual. He was a spiritual teacher and philosopher. Ashfaq Ahmed hosted a show on TV with students and young audiences. It presented with the title of Zavia and Baithak. He gave satisfactory answers to the questions of the young generation on different topics.

Ashfaq Ahmed headed the Urdu science board for three decades and a lot of work done for the promotion of Urdu and its implementation as a teaching language of science subjects. Ashfaq Ahmad also worked as a teacher at Dayal Singh College Lahore. On his services for the Urdu language, the government of Pakistan awarded him with Sitara-e-Imtiaz. The government honored to Ashfaq Ahmed with the presidential pride of performance award.
