Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi (Pirzada)Pirzada Ahmad Shah Qasmi was a famous poet, journalist, novelist, critic, short story writer and screen playwright. He played a memorable role in the promotion of progressive movement. He headed a group of Urdu writers against Dr Wazir Agha group. Qasmi served Urdu more than any other writer of his era.
Pirzada Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi was born on 20th November 1916 in Anga, district Khushab. His father’s name was Pir Ghulam Nabi. He belongs to a prominent Awan family. His family had a religious hegemony. There are a lot of followers of their family were lived in surrounding areas. Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi completed his matriculation from Campbellpur in 1931 (now Attock). He took a graduation degree from Punjab University Lahore in 1935. After completing his education, Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi turned to writing.
Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi wrote more than four dozens of books on different topics and in the separate category. He wrote some columns in various Urdu newspapers of Pakistan. He edited Naqoosh, Amroz, Phool, Tehzib-e-Niswan, Adab-e-Latif, Sawera and Fannon for many years. Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi became first, the general secretary of progressive writers’ movement and later worked as a president. He started to publish his monthly magazine named “Fanon”. Fannon issued for a half century. He provided a platform for the Urdu writers and patronage the talent. Many Urdu writers are the gratitude of Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi.
In the age of ninety, Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi died on 10th July 2006 in Lahore. The government of Pakistan awarded him by a presidential pride of performance award in 1968 and Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 1980.
